March 31, 2006 An article at bodybuilding.com explains how Arnold Schwarzenegger used cheat curls and other exercises to get huge even by today's standards.
March 19, 2005 Meg at megnut.com says that she gleaned from April Food & Wine the following information about the numbers on the stickers that one sees on fruit in U.S. supermarkets: "The numbers tell you how the fruit was grown. Conventionally grown fruit has four digits; organically grown fruit has five and starts with a nine; genetically engineered has five numbers and starts with an eight." Thanks to Collateral Damage for pointing that out. --- Zillow.com has estimated values for many single houses (but apparently no condos), plus aerial maps of neighborhoods. March 17, 2005 I am currently looking at the book 740 Park: the Story of the World's Richest Apartment Building by Michael Gross. To say that I am reading it would not be quite accurate. I read the first fifty pages, approximately, and then began glancing at a line or two on each page, reading a few pages here and there. I am now about half way through the book. It is not very interesting. The author devotes much of the book to talking about the various people who have lived in the building over the years, and devotes a few paragraphs to many of them. Almost none of them are people that I am interested in reading about. The book might have been better if it had been much shorter, were more concentrated on the building itself, and contained more photographs. The photographs in the book, all black and white, are few and far between. Most of them picture the furniture in somebody's living room or dining room. March 15, 2006
March 3, 2006 Doodle by the Marquess of Bath at ebay.co.uk for Epilepsy Action Doodle by Kenneth Branagh at ebay.co.uk for Epilepsy Action The New York Daily News reports that "best-selling novelist Plum Sykes has dubbed the main character of her next book, 'The Debutante Divorcée,' Sylvie Mortimer. The blurb explains: 'token newlywed ... Sylvie discovers her marriage isn't exactly an Eternity ad - especially when the city's most notorious Husband Huntress zeros in on her spouse.'" February 28, 2006 "The Spanish crown prince, Felipe, and Princess Letizia have sent blood from the umbilical cord of their baby for preservation in the US so that it could be used in the treatment of future illnesses. "Media reports of the couple's decision, which have not been confirmed, have reignited a debate in Spain about whether parents should have the right to store their newborn's cord blood with private companies rather than donating it for anonymous use in state-operated blood banks. * * * "This month, Spain's health ministry stopped private companies offering similar services as they violate the principle of 'fairness' in the universal healthcare system. 'Those private banks promise benefits exclusively to the person who deposits the cells, unlike the public banks used to transplant cells to anyone in the world who needs it,' said the ministry."--guardian.co.uk February 27, 2006 A fifth edition of Donald Trump's The Apprentice begins tonight on NBC. The broadcast time on the East coast is 9 p.m. Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka will fill in for Carolyn Kepcher for five episodes, and his son Don will fill in for George Ross for two episodes. January 6, 2006 One of the best ways to fight germs is to clean one's hands. "The Centers for Disease Control touts hand-washing as the easiest and most effective way to keep disease from spreading," reports Conor Dougherty in The Wall Street Journal. "If you're worried about the water [in the lavatory on a commercial airliner], you should still wash your hands to get rid of dirt," says Mr. Dougherty. "But then, follow up with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer."
